Welcome to Front Office Travel. Let’s start by answering the first obvious question. Why the name Front Office Travel? Well, a slang term for the cockpit of an airliner is “the front office”. And since this site was started by an airline captain (me), it seemed to fit. So what does this mean for the reader? Well for starters I am truly a full time traveller. I average well over 200 days a year on the road. This is not being written by someone who gets “out there” once a year or so. I have been leading this lifestyle of travel for both work and pleasure constantly for the last 28 years. It is a lifestyle I love, and one which I plan to continue into the future.
So what can you get out of Front Office Travel? I am frequently asked how I find great deals and great places for my travels. The simple answer is technology. Technology gets me where I need to be in the planning stage and during my travels. I use it extensively both for business and leisure travel. Yes, I am one of those “gadget guys”. So as a result Front Office Travel features excellent information on how to use technology to get great travel deals to great destinations. You will also find great reviews of travel gear and tech gadgets. And not stopping there you will discover how to best use that tech gear while traveling.
Of course, trip reports and reviews will also be part of your experience here. I have kept friends and coworkers confused for years as to whether I am a luxury travel guy or a budget travel guy. Well now the real answer to the big question ………yes. I am both and yet neither exactly. I am a value travel guy and I bet many of you would like to be too. Frequently in my travels I mix economy, mid-range, and luxury travel. So does the category I am traveling in today depend on how much money is in my bank account? No definitely not. I am just as likely to take a business class flight to stay in a 2 star hotel, or economy class to stay in a 5 star. So what drives this madness? I am a firm believer in value travel”. What? Simply getting the most value for your travel dollar. I love to splurge for a business or first class ticket or a nice 5 star hotel when they are a good value for the money. I also love to save on a perfectly fine less than 4 star hotel when I do not plan on spending hardly any time in the room anyway.
Hopefully, this site will let you consider planning in that same direction. If you are a high end traveller you can discover the best deals for your high end travel. If you are a budget traveller you can discover the best places to get the most for that travel dollar. And as the type of traveller who can splurge once in a while hopefully you can find the best times and places to make that splurge.
My travels have brought many friends, experiences, and memories. May your travels bring the same to you.
