Many of us have experienced the long overnight layover in Atlanta. Like most of you, I have spent these at hotels close to the airport. There are many good properties to stay in the Hartsfield airport area. These hotels offer close in convenience. Most of the hotels are somewhat isolated which limits your choices for meals and entertainment. There are other options for an Atlanta Hartsfield overnight.
I have discovered downtown Atlanta is a great alternative to the airport properties. The city features excellent restaurants, bars, and attractions. Downtown Atlanta is home to World of Coke and CNN. Both offer great visitor experiences. For those in need of a burger fix I recommend The Vortex in Midtown. If a burger is not your fancy continue to explore the midtown area as choices abound.
The transportation question is a easy one in Atlanta. For travel between the airport and downtown the MARTA train is a great choice with a one way fare of $2.50. The station is right in the airport terminal so there is no need for a shuttle. Uber is one of my favorite ways to travel and they are excellent in Atlanta. The Uber advantage is the opportunity to speak to a local about events and advice. I learned I had stumbled into the Midtown Music Festival by way of an Uber conversation. Uber service in downtown and the surrounding areas is excellent.
Go explore the city. Your memories, camera, and taste buds will thank you.
